Application Process:

THE FIRST STEP in the application process is to complete the University of Oregon Graduate Admission Application.

Once you have submitted the on-line application, the Graduate School will contact the Political Science department and provide us with your application information. We will send you an acknowledgement e-mail and provide you with an electronic password allowing you to monitor the arrival of each piece of the application.

Once you have completed the graduate admission form, follow the submission directions below to complete the application process.

I. University of Oregon Office of Admissions

Submit the following to:

  1. Official transcript from the college or university from which you received a bachelor's and/or other subsequent advanced degree. If you have attended a school where English was not the language of instruction, you must submit two official transcripts: one in the original language, and one translated into English. The transcripts must include all subjects studied, academic units (credits), marks (grades), and the degree/diploma certificate awarded.   2. International Students only:
    Supplementary Application and Financial Statement for International Students
  3. TOEFL or ILTS score report (if required). Students for whom English is not their native language or who have degrees from non-English speaking foreign institutions must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System test (IELTS). An official score report must be sent to the Office of Admissions (arranged at time of exam - the University of Oregon's Institution Number is 4846).

II. Department of Political Science

  1. Application for Graduate Teaching Fellowship Award, if desired.

  2. Official transcripts of all previous college work. Grade point averages should be 3.0 or higher for undergraduate work and/or completed graduate work.
  3. Three recommendations from instructors from whom you have taken courses using the Report on Graduate Applicant form.

  4. Personal statement (2-3 pages) outlining your interests in political science and your career aspirations.
  5. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score report. An official score report from the Educational Testing Service (E.T.S.) is required. The University of Oregon's Institution Number is 4846 and the Department of Political Science's code is 1902. A combined verbal and quantitative score of 1100 is required.
  6. TOEFL or IELTS score report (if required). TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) minimum score is 575 for the paper-based version, 88 for the Internet based version. IELTS (International English Language Testing System) minimum score is 7.0.
