Political Science welcomes new Associate Professor Debra Thompson
This fall the Department is thrilled to welcome Debra Thompson to the faculty. She is one of the world’s leading scholars of the comparative politics of race, with many publications including The Schematic State: Race, Transnationalism, and the Politics of the Census (Cambridge University Press, 2016). Hired as part of UO’s Black Studies cluster initiative, Thompson earned her PhD at the University of Toronto, held a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard, and was most recently a member of the Department of African-American Studies at Northwestern University. She will teach PS 204 Introduction to Comparative Politics in Fall 2017, and a variety of classes on American and comparative politics in the future.
The excitement is mutual: “I’m thrilled to be joining such an outstanding department,” she says, “and I’m looking forward to engaging with students and colleagues here at UO.”
