Note: Our graduate program is geared toward doctoral studies and typically only admits students for a terminal Master’s degree under exceptional circumstances. Students whose main goal is to obtain a PhD should apply directly to the doctoral program. Those wanting to obtain a Terminal Master’s Degree should contact the department’s Director of Graduate Studies, Burke Hendrix, before applying to discuss potential fit.
The master’s degree program in Political Science prepares students for professional careers in teaching and research. Two years is the typical period for completing the program.
The Graduate School has determined that students must complete the following minimum requirements for a master’s degree, however, the Department of Political Science requires master students to complete additional requirements, which can be found in the Masters Program Requirements.
See the University of Oregon Catalog for the distinction between the MS and MA degree requirements.
See our admissions process page for information on how to apply.
